LOUIS Cafe am Dom sits conveniently close to Cologne’s famous cathedral, offering a spacious and relaxed spot for anyone seeking a break from the usual café crowd. As a hybrid bubble tea store and café, it leans into Asian-inspired flavors and treats, making it a go-to for those after something a little different than your standard coffee and cake.

The atmosphere here is casual and welcoming, with plenty of seating that invites lingering, whether you're catching up with friends or settling in with a book. The vibe feels more like a communal hangout than a rushed grab-and-go joint, partly thanks to friendly staff who bring orders to your table, adding a personal touch that locals seem to appreciate.

Tea lovers will find a varied menu centered around bubble tea varieties and creative latte options. Notable highlights include the Thai Bubble Tea, matcha-based drinks like the Matcha Latte with oat milk and the Matcha Dalgona, alongside a fairly broad cake selection featuring Sesame Cake, Strawberry Cheese Cake, and Coconut Cakes. The desserts and drinks here tend to balance sweetness thoughtfully; they’re not overwhelmingly sugary or diluted, which helps maintain the distinct flavors of matcha, sesame, or fruit.

If you’re hunting for authentic Asian-inspired tastes in Cologne’s center, this café’s offerings such as the matcha red bean bingsu and Rose Macchiato provide a subtle twist compared to more Westernized café selections. The cakes sometimes hint at traditional textures and ingredients, which makes it appealing to those familiar with or curious about East Asian cafés. However, some drinks, like the strawberry matcha, may feel a bit mild in fruit intensity for more adventurous palates.

Because LOUIS Cafe am Dom is bigger than many typical boutique tea spots in town, it’s especially suited for longer visits and casual meet-ups without feeling cramped. The clean restroom facilities and the option to have drinks served in glasses (with a small extra fee for takeaway) add to the sense of comfort and thoughtfulness behind the place.

Given its central location near Köln Cathedral, it can be a refreshing pitstop during a busy day of sightseeing or shopping. Locals who appreciate a cozy, less crowded environment than the usual coffee chains will likely enjoy settling in here anytime the mood strikes — afternoons and early evenings feel particularly fitting. While some minor quirks like card minimums might catch attention, the overall experience aligns well with those looking to enjoy flavorful, Asian-inspired bubble teas and cakes in a calm setting.

My friend said, the cake is good. I couldn’t eat it because it has gelatine (thanks to the waitress for telling this to me). Although the cake was good, the strawberry matcha is not it. It had very little strawberry puree and it tasted like plain milk. My suggestion is that maybe next time, be more generous with the strawberry puree and matcha powder.

Had the matcha red bean bingsu and it was delicious perfect balance of flavor and texture, not too sweet, just right. The drink I had was good too. It was called Lychee Juicy and they have a solid selection of other drinks. There are plenty of seats so you’re not crammed in like most cafés. People complaining about the card minimums or bathroom signs are just looking for something to nitpick because it’s clearly posted before you even walk in.

Longing for Asian vibe? This place somehow reminds me of Seoul with really good drink selection and not the typical Europen cakes! The service is friendly, the drinks and cakes are tasty and yummy, plus a cosy spacious ambiance. It is not far from the Dom.

I ordered the matcha latte with taro. This was my first time trying taro and didn't really like it that much (it tastes really earthy), but it is supposed to be an acquired taste so who knows... The service was kind and quick and the tea looked amazing. It's a nice and cozy place and they serve the drinks in glasses, so if you want it to go is +10 cents.

One of my favorite bubble tea cafés in Cologne! It’s bigger than any other average tea shop, which makes it more welcoming and enjoyable, if you want to sit longer and eat inside. The staff is super sweet, friendly and they bring your order to your table. The matcha sesame cake was delicious and our bubble teas as well, not too watery or full of sugar. The bathroom was very clean. Only small minus would be that it tends to get very loud, as the room is huge with few furniture. Gave me a feeling of being in a canteen

I don't know what some of these reviews are on about, this place not only looks lovely but the drink I got was really nice. Prices are high everywhere so I don't mind paying 5€ for a nice coffee with extra ingredients. Love zhe atmosphere, the barista was super sweet and kind, I'm enjoying myself and will very likely be coming back for another.

Drawn to the cafe's inviting atmosphere, we visited twice. However, on our first visit, we left after learning they were out of cake. As a matcha enthusiast, I ordered a matcha tea latte and a matcha chocolate trio cake. Because the cafe only accepts card payments for purchases over €10, I opted for oat milk in my latte. The cake, which was supplied rather than baked in-house, was frozen; the matcha portion was solid, and it was disappointing. I also ordered a matcha yuzu layer cake to go, which was packed in a small brown carry box. Unfortunately, after leaving it in my bag for three hours, I discovered liquid leaking from the box, likely because it was also frozen.
